L.A., Seven-Mary-Three

So Wilmer Valderrama is “attached” to play Officer Francis “Ponch” Poncherello, the role that made Erik Estrada a household name in the late ‘70s, in the inevitable big-screen adaptation of CHiPs. The next big question is, who’ll play Ponch’s partner, Officer Jon Baker (originally played by Larry Wilcox)? ‘Cause, c’mon, if you absolutely must make a CHiPs movie (and apparently, someone must, because they’re doing it, so fuck it, I’m just gonna sit back and rubberneck the crash site), it’s gotta be Ponch and Jon. Steve McLeish and the Nelson brothers can be in it, sure… but Ponch and Jon must be front and center. Therefore, there must be a Jon. So, if Fez is playing Ponch, who’s gonna be Jon?

My short list? I’m thinking Ben McKenzie or Kevin Connolly could do decent jobs of playing Baker as straight man, with a touch of humor, or if they decide to go the full slapstick Starsky and Hutch route, Bret Harrison might work out.

Of course, this still leaves open the questions of who’ll play Sergeant Getraer, Barry Baricza, Artie Grossman, Sindy Cahill, Bonnie Clark, Jeb Turner, and of course, Harlan Arliss? Any suggestions?
